Actors and musicians are on this page; writers and politicians are on Page 3; sports celebrities are on Page 1.
Clint Eastwood, "Memories," 1949. Joined no school clubs, but was known to play guitar in a few local coffee shops.
Elvis Presley, Humes High, Memphis, 1953. Played what his classmates considered "hillbilly music." Participated in ROTC, the Biology Club, History Club, and Speech Club.
Peter Falk, Ossining High, 1942. Falk was in the Drama club and was president of his class, partaking in the senior play, portraying...a detective.
Johnny Cash, from 1946 and 1950. One of the most popular country musicians of the past 50 years went to school in a small Depression town in Arkansas and was known simply as J.R. His classmates remember him for being a solid friend, for having a great ability to write stories, for his fascination with trains, and for his tendency to be "droll".
Bob Dylan from 1958, then his 1959 graduation picture. In high school Robert Zimmerman was known and liked but not well understood. On Talent Night he entertained (baffled?) his high school audience by jumping on the piano and screaming. In his senior yearbook, it reads that Bob's plan is "to join Little Richard." Today... Rolling Stone says that Bob Dylan is our most influencial musician in past 40+ years. No one today is untouched by his powerful effect.
Bob Dylan's sophomore pictures from the 1957 "Hematite" yearbook.
Janis Joplin in 1958, 1959, and from the 1960 Jefferson High "Yellowjacket." Joplin was in the Slide Rule Club and Future Teachers of America. She was also in the Art Club and was a hospital aide.
Oprah Winfrey, East High, Nashville, 1971. National Honor Society, Drama Club, Forensics Champion, and Most Popular.
Jack Nicholson in the 1954 "Treasure Chest." Jack was the Rules Club president, the Basketball Team manager, played table tennis, participated in the Senior Play, and was voted both Vice President of his class as well as "Class Clown."
